I love creating art pieces that are also functional. The epitome of that desire is the Jewelry2 Box.
I was inspired by an Art Deco piece that I saw in Jewelry History book to make my Jewelry2 Boxes. The one shown at right was a piece I made for one of Donna Kato's challenges for her PolyClay booth at CHA. The earrings, necklace, and bracelet are all reversible. The box is constructed so that the pieces fit into and decorate the box when not being worn. This piece won 3rd Prize in the Challenge.
3 Beauties Jewelry Box
These boxes aren't just pretty little trinket boxes. Look inside these boxes and you'll find a box that is also Jewelry. The Box Top is a Pin or Pendant. Many have matching Earrings as part of the design. The hand built box is the perfect showcase for your jewelry when not being worn.
Spirit Boxes
These magical little boxes are my trademark item. The box shape is determined when I put a pocket of clay into the oven and the heat "inflates" the box. Then I add additional items , such as a base and lid adornment. The box is baked again. The lid is hand-cut after sanding and polishing is complete. Then I dig out my stash of beads and baubles and get to decorating. Each is truely a unique work of art.
Each Spirit Box is packaged with a magical poem that explains how the Spirit Box "works". Basically, the owner whispers in their worries or wishes before they go to bed. While the owner sleeps, the resident "Spirit" takes care of those worries or wishes!
